Diet Plans And Meals – The Hallelujah Diet

The Hallelujah Diet, which is also called the Creator’s diet, was initiated by George Malkmus, a former chemist who later became a Baptist preacher. After having survived colon cancer Malkmus became convinced that he owed his life to spiritual food. This diet is directed towards adults in good health. Unlike many others, there is no stated time limit for this diet. Its objectives are definitely two fold: not only weight loss but also coming closer to God by eating divine food.

The Hallelujah Diet includes an optional transition phase for those people who feel that their bodies need time to adapt to the new regime and effectively detoxify their systems. This diet excludes all foods of animal origin with a single exception, honey. The only foods allowed are fruits, legumes, and some nuts and grains. Furthermore, a full 85% of your food intake must be raw, which, in the eyes of this diet, is food as it was created by God. Cooked foods may include coffee (is that a food?), infusions, organic juices, soups, cereals, beans, and fruit.

While this diet has the advantage of including lots of fruits and vegetables it lacks many basic nutrients. Furthermore, it doesn’t take exercise into account. The Hallelujah Diet does not provide balanced and varied food. It tends to be effective in the short term, but not in the long run.

Here are two sample menus: Menu 1 Breakfast: Oatmeal, soy milk, one apple and a cup of tea. Lunch: Green salad, tomato salad, grated carrots, and a glass of almond milk. The mid-afternoon snack is a strawberry and banana smoothie. Supper: Vegetable soup, vegetable couscous, and kiwis for dessert.

Menu 2 Breakfast: Muesli, soy milk, one apple and a cup of tea. Lunch: Salad composed of germinated chick peas, broccoli, red fruit salad, and a glass of banana milk. The mid-afternoon snack is strawberry and smoothie and nuts. Supper: Bell pepper salad, braised endives, unpolished rice, sauted vegetables, and a muffin.

Leasehold and Ground Rents – an Explanation

It’s time to extend the lease of your flat. Or maybe you have just taken over a lease which is about to drop below 80 years. After reading about the benefits of lease extension, you want to go ahead.

The papers and forms to sign are piling up on your desk and you start to worry. All the muddling rents you will have to pay on your lease, what do they mean?

Nominal rent, chief rent, ground rent and even peppercorn rent (!). Thoughts of service charges and panic follow: ‘have I been paying all those rents in past years? I thought the nightmare of paying rent disappeared when buying and extending a lease?’

Panic not. Soon you will be able to face that stack of papers, go ahead and extend the lease, with a smile.

So, starting with ground rent. Don’t get fooled! Ground rent, nominal rent and peppercorn rent all refer to the same thing: the rent you pay for the ground your property sits on. As a leaseholder you rent a portion of ground from the freeholder. This is normally around £100 to £250 and due once a year as a lump sum.

But why is it so low? No, it’s not because it’s for mowing and tending to the garden (service charges). In order to enforce the terms of a lease a ground rent must be set. Many leases have tiny ground rents as the price was set hundreds of years ago without change. Freeholders, in those days, stipulated that the rent should be a peppercorn (as used in pepper grinders) to save them the trouble of collecting the money.

In theory the freeholder could still demand the peppercorn but in effect it means there’s no ground rent to pay. And that’s one of the advantages that extending a lease can bring: your ground rent drops to zero (or a peppercorn!).

Can you feel the air calming now that you know more before you extend your lease? Yes, but sometimes the term ‘chief rent’ is used, which many people mistakenly refer to as ground rent. Relax: this term is only relevant if you are purchasing a property in North West England, otherwise you can forget about it.

You turn to the now not-so-scary stack of papers…but that constant worry remains: service charges. Nothing severe here either, but that’s another story, for another time.

Your Purpose In Life – How To Find And Fulfil Your Purpose in Life!

Do you have a purpose in life? Most of us do not stop to consider this until a crisis strikes and then, we may wonder what the meaning of our lives really is.

When things become meaningless in our lives, it is because we are to seek a deeper meaning for our lives. Everyone is born with a higher purpose in life and to discover it takes some inner searching.

Here are some ways to help you find your purpose in life:

1.What do you love to do that brings you joy? Look at your hobbies and your work. What do you do that you become so engrossed in, because it is exciting and absorbing?

2.What are you good at doing? Your family and friends can tell you what your talents and skills are. Write down what you are good at.

Do you like being with people or have an affinity with children or creating beautiful things? Are you task-oriented, do you love to write, communicate or teach?

3.Meditate. Deep within you, you have the answers you are seeking and in order to find them, your mind needs to be clear.

Discovering what your purpose in life is can take as little as ten minutes a day if you sit still and ask. Have patience and keep asking until you receive the answer and then follow through by taking the first step towards it and then you will be shown the next step.

4. Look to your past. When you were little, what were you told off for at school and at home? I remember receiving a report from my needlework teacher which said, “Maria should work more and talk less”.

At the time, the teacher thought that my talent for communicating and listening to others was a hindrance in her classroom. Now, I am using that same talent in my work. What did you do as a child? That is your natural ability that you are to use in your purpose.

5.What comes naturally to you that you enjoy doing and would do even if you could not be paid for it? Do you find that people trust you with their problems or do you find yourself frequently teaching others how to do things? You may find that you are a nurturing person who nurses others or that you find yourself conveying interesting facts to others when you socialise?

Your purpose in life will bring you joy and contribute to other peoples’ lives in some way. If you are feeling that your life is meaningless right now, it is time to sit still and uncover what you are really here to do.

Father Junipero Serra’s last days in California

“I shall not turn back!

It took Father Serra almost twenty years, from the time he was first summoned to come to the New World and serve in the missions, before he got to his first California Mission in San Diego, in what is today the State of California.

Those twenty years prior to arriving at San Diego were at times a painful prelude, filled with joy and sorrows, readying him for his biggest challenge, setting up missions a day’s walk apart up the coast of California. The missionary who worked furtively his last years on earth was tired and more dead than alive. When one of his companions begged him to stop, his legs so badly swollen and in pain that he could not celebrate Mass standing, Father Serra refused saying,

“Please do not speak of that, for I trust that if God will give me the strength to reach San Diego, as He has given me the strength to come this far, I shall not turn back. They can bury me wherever they wish and I shall gladly be left among the pagans, if it be the Will of God.”

It had taken him almost three months to reach San Diego from Baja California. Half dead, most of the time, he never turned back!

December 26, 1770, Father Serra performed his first baptism in California. In addition to San Diego and San Carlos del Carmel, Father Serra went on to found San Antonio de Padua in July, 1771; San Gabriel in September, 1771; San Luis Obispo in September, 1772; San Francisco in October, 1776; San Juan Capistrano in January, 1777; and San Buenaventura in March 1782.

Our little missionary goes Home, at last!

August 28, 1784, with no more to give, his last ounce of blood shed for the Church he so passionately loved and brought to the natives of the Americas, Father Serra, died in the arms of his former student and dear friend Father Palóu.

Pressing his crucifix close to his heart, he turned to his friend and gave him his last will and testament:

“I promise, if the Lord in His infinite mercy grants me eternal happiness which I do not deserve because of my sins and faults, that I shall pray for all those (at the missions) and for the conversion of so many whom I have left unconverted.”

Our missionary died as he lived, like Jesus before him, thinking and praying for those he was leaving behind. He taught the natives and by his example, as well as word, led them to become some of the strongest Catholics in the Western hemisphere.

Finding Your Anxiety Cures

For some people, self help and natural herbs is not an option. For those, the third way to help with anxiety is through counseling. Professional counseling can offer tremendous relief as you talk through how you feel.

So what can I do to live a brain fit lifestyle? First, give up the anxiety about whether or not you can do it, because a brain fit ‘cure-your-anxiety-lifestyle is well within the talent and grasp of anyone who can set up a bit of a routine in their life based on attending to the pillars of brain fitness.
